AMANDA JELLEN, soprano, made her Boston debut as artist-in-residence with the Back Bay Chorale performing the soprano solo in a Honneger's Le Roi David.  Operatic roles include Mother Marie of the Incarnation in Dialogues of the Carmelites, First Lady in The Magic Flute, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas, and Valencienne in The Merry Widow.  Partial roles include Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Elettra (Idomeneo), and Agathe (Der Freischütz).  In concert, Ms. Jellen has been seen as soloist in Mozart’s Coronation Mass; Handel’s Saul (Merab); in Bach’s St. John Passion, Magnificat, Cantata 140 (“Wachet auf”), The Ascension Oratorio, The Easter Oratorio, and Jesu, meine Freude.  Concert performances also include appearance as soloist in Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42, No. 6 (Quintet) and Salve Regina; and Vaughan Williams’ Hodie (selections).

An active performer of contemporary music, Amanda commissioned a work from David T. Little for soprano, violin, and clarinet entitled Songs of Love, Death, Friends and Government (2004) which received its premiere in February 2005. She has appeared as soloist in Michael Daugherty's What's That Spell, a pop cantata for two Barbie-sopranos, and Patrick Long's Astronomer, for soprano, amplified chamber ensemble and electronic percussion, (both performances with the Susquehanna University New Music Ensemble of which she was co-founder).

Recent recitals have included a performance of Schumann’s Frauenliebe und –Leben with Scott Allen Jarrett at the piano and a recital of Haydn, Walton, and Chausson with Jean Anderson-Collier.  Ms. Jellen looks forward to recitals this season with composer/pianist Rodney Lister and violist Rose Wollman.  Ms. Jellen holds an MM in Vocal Performance from New England Conservatory and a BA in Music from Susquehanna University with added studies at the Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy and Operaworks (Los Angeles).  Originally from Willington, Connecticut, Amanda lives in Beacon Hill and studies with Carole Haber.
